art journal music

Are you ready for another art journal layout? Today I made a project about music!

Along with my coffee cups this goes to my list of top favorite layouts I’ve ever done.

To create this layout I used mainly distress paint and added some shading with my big brush markers.

For my background some tissue wrap did the trick and adding embossing paste with stencils really brought that background to life.

One of my favorite elements on this layout is the guitar and the piano borders. And can you see the guitar strings are actually thread and dimensional?

You can enjoy a step-by-step video below or at my YouTube channel here.

  15. I’ve been enjoying your videos for a couple of months now. You do such beautiful work! I don’t know where you come up with all of your ideas. I’m just getting into art journaling and can’t decide for my first big purchase if I should buy a set of copic markers or big brush pens. Any thoughts on which would be better for getting started? Thanks for all of your inspiration!

  16. Okay, so I decided to take your ideas and make a page with a sewing theme. I used different supplies, as I don’t have everything that you have…yet. 😉 Since it’s literally my third attempt at art journaling, I’m pleased with the results. I feel like I still want to add more, but I’m taking a break from it. Thanks for the inspiration! You make beautiful pages and cards!

  17. i love your art journal. i’ve seen all the videos. i’ve never use pitt pens or big brush. it seem’s fantastic to add shadows. what are the main differences between gelatos and pitt pens (brush)?

  18. I have made several of your journal pages and am now on book two. I have been inspired to even create several of my own journal pages, thanks to the creative use of materials you have shared with us. I will soon retire and look forward to many hours in my art room, mastering the techniques you have taught. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.

  19. Vicky,
I know this is an older post, but since I’ve watched this tutorial video on YouTube more than a dozen times, I wanted to visit your blog and comment.
I appreciate your tutorials so much. This is my favorite of yours, and watching (or just listening to you!) always makes me feel inspired. I don’t ever use these kinds of tutorial videos as a “step-by-step make this exact page,” but rather as idea generators, reminders about supplies I may have tucked away and forgetten/ education on new ways to use the supplies I have, and sometimes I listen as I create just so I can feel as though I’m not alone when little “oppsies” like not putting a paint bottle lid back on just right can happen to everyone (and it’s no reason to get upset).
Funny enough, even when reading your blog, I hear your delightful accent in the words.
You bring so much joy to others, and you may never know how you touch lives… thank you again for sharing so freely. -Tonya

    1. thank you so much for your sweet comment! Your comment really touched me and I so appreciate that you took the time to write such kind words 🙂

      1. Thank you for always giving so freely your wisdom, and taking time to share it! For those of us who are lacking in the “creativity” department, you are a beautiful blessing (literally and figuratively!).
Thank you for taking time to reply. : )
