Welcome to another art journal layout using fun mixed media techniques. Today I used my gel plate to do some printing on the background. I worked on a page from my 8×8 custom made disc bound journal.
For my background today I used various brands of acrylic paints on my 9 x 11 – Printing Plate ( SBC | SSS | JGG ). I also used some combs and other tools to do some marking before pulling a print. But remember you can do this with the back of your brush! I was working on a watercolor paper so I got instant texture without too much effort. Depending on the paper you use you get different effects.
My focal points are lovely stamps from the Stampendous – Magical Horses ( SBC | SSS | JGG ) stamp set. I stamped the horses on paper I had from gel plate printing and used the matching dies to cut them out. I also use some of my Decomarkers by Pebeo to do some doodling on the horses. These markers come with different nib sizes and they have opaque acrylic paint inside. Awesome effect!
To add all the stars I used the Darkroom Door STARRY NIGHT Large Stencil ( SSS ) and I also added a few Studio Katia IRIDESCENT STARS ( SSS ) at then end.
Oh and by the way this is not my handwritting, I used the Concord and 9th – Sophisticated Script stamps ( SBC | SSS ) which I love and use again and again.

Do you want more inspiration? Here is another page I did for the same art journal book.
Fun project!
What a fun project! I’ve been holding back from getting a gel plate, but watching this video makes it difficult!!!! It really does look like fun! Scrapbook.com just restocked their Nuvo Creative Pen stash so I ordered a few sets of pens to try playing with. Maybe next on the agenda will be a gel plate??!!!! Thanks, Vicky.
Is the tool you use to pick up your sequins available in the US? I find my Quik Pik very awkward to use.
this is a wax pencil, available everywhere. It is usually used for nail art. I got it from amazon and it’s really inexpensive
Beautiful page Vicky!!
I recently got my first gel plate, go tit on clearance, now I wish I had gotten the other one that was there too. I love the backgrounds that it makes. It’s so fun. I have that alpha stamp set and just love it too. thanks for the great video and another fabulous journal page. Soooo fun.
I love Stampendous stamps designed by Laurel Burch , they are so playful! You mentioned the repositionable tape you used in your stamping tool in place of magnetics, I use a double stick tape but it’s too strong and sometimes it rips off a bit of the project paper, so I don’t like it. What is the tape you use? I didn’t see it in the materials list. Thanks.
I used a removable tape runner such as the one by Tombow… but any non permanent tape runner would do
Wow this is awesome!!
love this project, beautiful colors, thank you
A great page as always and LOTS of ideas. TFS!
Magical! I love anything Laurel Burch and the alpha stamps look wonderful with the background and the horses. So much to see on one page!
Beautiful as always, Vicky!
Vicky it’s gorgeous as usual, you let it look so easy. I love your Art Journal pages and they also inspire me, thank you so much.
Your work is magical! So inspiring that I want to do it all the same but don’t have horses so maybe I’ll use fairies! Thanks for the ideas!!!

So pretty! Especially love the stamp set, it is the perfect size and font for your journal! At first, I thought gel plate stamping would be difficult, but after seeing your tribal cat layout and now this one, I am excited to try my hand at it! Thanks for inspiration!
