Hi! Today I’m sharing a steampunk mixed media canvas. I decided that every Tuesday I will share an mixed media project, it can be an art journal, a canvas , a tag… using lots of my favorite techniques and experimenting with new ones. For today I created a canvas (well on an MDF board) but you can easily get inspired and adapt it on paper or an art journal.
To create my project I mainly used one patterned paper. It’s from the latest collection by Antonis Tzanidakis for Stamperia., “Sir Vagabond”. If you want to check the collection you can see the unboxing video here. To turn the project into a steampunk mixed media canvas I just had to add a few gears that I had in my stash for ever. I am so happy with the outcome! It’s already decorating my craft room.

Here are some phots where you can see better all te details, texture and dimension.
The wooden gears add a lot of texture and dimension on the project.
The background was so easy to create, just sticking down a patterned paper and spraying with color. A bit of stenciling is also a must!
I popped all my cut out elements with foam tape to have layers and more depth.
The town has 3 layers and looks awesome in real life with all the depth.
I also enhanced the colors with my big brysh markers technique, by adding highlights and shading.
I had so much fun making my steampunk mixed media canvas and I hope you will too as you follow along my free video class.

WOW! Love your mixed media . I love watching your Tuesday videos on mixed media. I would love to see videos on resins model making. Thank you.
I love your Steampunk Mixed Media! I am so happy you decided to have a mixed media Tuesday! Looking forward to seeing you work with the molds for another fantastic project!
Love your mixed media videos. I am excited about seeing one every week.
I really loved your mixed media project. I would love for you to do this every Tuesday. I also love Stamperia paper, so creative.
So much fun! I love watching you create mixed media and art journals. The layers, the shading, the details that make it all “pop”.
What was the copper product? It really adds to that metallic feel of steampunk.
I would love to be in a mixed media class with you— too bad you are in Greece and I am in Minnesota! Too far to drive! 🙂
Thank you! After this covid thing ends and we will be able to travel again, I will go back to my live workshops. i usually go around Greece but a USA workshop tour is in my plans. When the tmie comes I will post on my channel. The copper product I used was just acrylic paint, a copper metalique one… I used the stamperia brand but you can find similar ones from every brand.
Hi Vicky, I just love all your videos so yes I can’t wait for next Tuesday!
I love all the styles you create but I live in Colorado and was wondering if you could make something with mountains or moose… just an idea!
Love,
Pascale
I love your art journal/ mixed media projects so I’m excited you’ll be doing a weekly project. Even though I don’t art journal that’s what drew me to your channel. I like the vintage-y vibe you generally use on those.
Fabulous!! I love the dry brushing at the end – it made the gears look great. I look forward to more fun on Tuesdays with you!
Your attention to detail gives this finished work excitement and credibility. Wonderful. Thank you for sharing this.
It looks fantastic, thank you for the tutorial
Happy New Year Vicky and thank you for continuing with your creative Tuesday videos. I have been really enjoying them and always look forward to seeing them come in to my inbox.
I am a card maker so not really into mix media but I am thinking this might be my next thing.
Awesome mixed media steampunk project!
Something to look forward to on Tuesdays! I’m not usually a steampunk fan, but I love vintage and cityscapes, and your steampunk interpretation was great. When you showed this release last week, I was happy to hear you’d be sharing projects w/ this patterned paper.
This is lovely! I will try and use this technique on a journal cover. You are amazing!
All I can say about art journal Tuesday is: YAY!!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you!!!! I have been playing a bit with clay in moulds for projects so I would love to see you work with resin and moulds to see what that would be like. I have mixed feelings about the clay, but I like the Stamperia moulds. Some great tips and ideas on this project — I like how you used the newspaper for the background. Cool idea! My dad died this morning from COVID, I finished buying a new home and will be moving in a couple of weeks. I may not be able to comment on your makes as you post, but I will catch up and comment as I settle in to everything that’s been going on and our country gets right again. Insane times. I appreciate all you do. Thank you, Vicky.
Vicky, I love the mixed media layout! You are so artistic! It would be fantastic for you to present mixed media pages every Tuesday! Something that I will look forward to each week! I love all you do, so I have no preference as to the subject matter. You are so inspiring, I just want to paint/make the world after each of your presentations!
Love your mixed media projects Vicky. Yes, I vote for Tuesday’s!
Hi Vicky, This mixed media steampunk canvas is stunning !! I love steampunk so this definitely appealed to me. I love all your mixed media projects and I am definitely going to try some of these techniques, I don’t have much confidence and I wish I could complete something similar to this, I tend to copy things that I have seen and loved (as I don’t have much imagination either). I have been doing mainly cards, but have decided that my last handmade card has been made and I want to progress to mixed media and maybe scrapbooking (I have been saying I am going to try scrapbooking for years now but not actually done any yet haha). I love all your work and thank you so much for inspiring us all. I look forward to your future mixed media Tuesdays.
Lots of love from Patricia xx
Stunning canvas Vicky, I love the dimension you added. Great to hang on the wall.
When I saw the preview from my (online) craftstore with the new Stamperia release I was completely in love with Sir Vagabond (also with Lady Vagabond release)
