It’s Tuesday and time for another mixed media project! For today I had to use my new collection “Birdhouses through the seasons” with Spellbinders. I created a mixed media shadow box that was so much fun to put together. I used lots of mixed media techniques for the background, my focal point and the quote! Check out the video below for a step by step tutorial.

Here are some close up photos on today’s project. Scroll all the way down for a complete list of the supplies used.
The birdhouse is from my Build a Spring Birdhouse ( SPL | SBC ) die set. The set also includes the dies for the tiny flowers as well as dies for leaves.
However for the leaves I actually used the ones included in my Sweet Birds on a Branch ( SPL | SBC ) die set since that set comes with the branch that I used too.
The quote comes from my Tweet Sentiments ( SBC | SPL | SSS ) stamp set. But since I wanted to cover more space I replaced a couple of words with the Retro Outline Alphas ( SBC | WFF ) alphabet die. To make the leaves more interesting I combines a bigger one too that comes from my Build a Fall Birdhouse ( SPL | SBC ) die set.
The adorable bird is also from the Sweet Birds on a Branch ( SPL | SBC ) die set, and you will find there 6 birds in total to play with.
The spring birdhouse not only cuts the shape but adds an embossing detail on the paper. However for this project I wanted to have a wooden look and feel that’s why I went with textured cardstock.

Another great project to display! The quote goes perfectly with the use of your first design collection!! What a great way to honor and display your latest big accomplishment!! As always, I like the background and have used the technique before (adding paper). It’s fun and I like the dimension it adds too! It reminded me of a video you did quite a while back where you made tiles from paper for the background of a mixed media project (was it the tea cup project?). The stencil you used looks like one I have made by The Dusty Attic company. The “tinted” wood frame looks great! I would never have thought to use Distress Ink to do that! Thanks for the video, tips and inspiration!! Have a wonderful day, Vicky.
Love how you gave a vintage look to the little yellow bird. I just got the Sweet Bird and Fall Birdhoue dies, really versatile pieces and looking forward to playing with them. I hope you will do a video about just the bird and branch dies, they are so cute!
OMG – I want this whole series!!!! AMAZING!!!
Great tutorial. Your birdhouse sets have well thought-out designs and details.
W OW! Your release is fantastic.love your project. I can’t wait to see more projects with your release. Love all your videos . Thank you.
Vicky, so cute! My dies have shipped and I’m so excited! I think a set to hang in my kitchen, which is where we have a breakfast nook that looks out into our backyard where we can see the birds; or on one of those table top frame holders that I can switch out each season….
Awesome box Vicky! This shows how versatile your stunning birdhouses collection is.
Always great to see how you put a mixed media project together.
So much texture on the background subtly made so that you can see it but not take over the design. Thank you so much for your great video inspiration, stay safe and have a wonderful day.
Vicky… I think your next design should be all about Ginger! Love from your fan… Elizabeth
Perfect! I really like the way the background has so much dimension, but is subtle. Thanks so much for the video! i love TUESDAYS!
Your bird house and little bird shadow box is amazing and has inspired me to try mixed media. Your video really helped me to see how to add mixed media to a project.
