Today I had fun with my Sizzix dies and did a fun textured Santa. Thinlits are on trend these days and we tend to use them all the time but it’s fun to go back to the good old Bigz.
These dies give you so many possibilities, as they cut out way more materials than just paper.
For my project today I used the Bigz Die – Old St. Nick ( AMZUK | HCUK | SZX ), with the Santa face. There is another Bigz die – St Nick ( SBC | SSS | HCUK ) of Santa’s face designed by Tim Holtz. You can do this project with either die and it’s guaranteed you will have lots of fun playing with different textures.
For the beard, mustache and hat details I cut out polyester batting. It can not get more realistic than that. The result was amazing and it was so easy to cut out. Just make sure to back it up with paper like I demonstrate in the video.
Amazing texture ! Plus his hat is actually cut out of red fabric. Great to touch and see in real life, but hard to catch on camera. You can definitely use this as an ornament, you can decorate your gift tags, use him on any Christmas project really. I went with a card just to show you what a great focal point he makes. But I know it’s a great Christmas project to do with your kids. Grab your felt and you can create lots of ornaments!
For my card, nstead of stamping the sentiment I went a bit more creative and made my own. So I added “Ho Ho Ho” by using the Sizzix Thinlits Die Set – Brush Capital Alpha ( CST | HCUK ) on gold cardstock.

That is so cute! I had great fun watching you make this Santa, and was surprised at how easily the batting and the cloth cut. I loved the background music too!

So cute! He looks more like a Pere Noel than a Santa. Too bad we can’t get him in North America. Thanks for sharing!
Another winner!
What a fun project! I wouldn’t have thought of using batting for Santa’s beard. Great idea. Thanks!
