winter art journal

Are you ready for a winter art journal?! Today I am back with a layout I did while playing with my gelli plate during the weekend.

You can easily turn this idea into a mixed media canvas. And it can be a winter themed one, or like I did give this little guy a gift to hold and it’s instantly a Christmas themed one.

The video is packed with fun techniques, such as gelli printing, using foam stamps, creating your own stencil and focal points and of course collage and shading!

I had so much fun creating this page and sharing the whole process with you I hope it will inspire you to get creative and play with your own favorite techniques.

Can you see all that texture going on at the background?! This is a combination of gelli printing and ArtFoamies: Circle Salad( ART | SSS | HBB ). Foam stamps are fun to use in so many ways in your mixed media projects, they are easy to clean and you can use them with your acrylic paints! For creating my background I did all the printing on parchment paper (aka deli paper) and then did a fun technique to add even more interest as I was sticking it on my pages.

  4. Love your journal videos best of all. They give me inspiration with both technique and composition. I don’t think that they are too long. When you are teaching us technique it is critical you take the time you need to show us what we need to know. Long is not a problem for me.

  17. Thank you soooo much for doing an art journal page this week! It was so fun watching you use a Gelli plate to make your own prints this time. The entire page turned out just gorgeous! Please don’t shorten your art journal videos!!! Actually, my first choice would be to see you do some of your drawing & shading at regular speed, which I realize would make the video even longer, but as a beginner I appreciate watching every detail. I so look forward to watching your art journal tutorials and am super excited you’ll be doing more of them next year! Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us & for being such a patient teacher. I hope you & your family have a wonderful Christmas!

  21. Thank you so much for sharing another art journal! I appreciate all the time and effort you put into making a video on them. They are FULL of tips and techniques — as well as inspiration and encouragement –, which I really appreciate. This is such a simple, yet beautiful page. And I LOVE the background!!! I made some boxes this year for cards made from Spellbinder dies and decorated the boxes. I remembered different things I learned from your videos and had so much fun decorating and trying out some new techniques. I would really like to try some more mixed media type projects next year. I don’t mind one bit longer videos!! I really enjoy watching the whole process. I’m a visual learner so I learn probably more from watching than from listening, but I appreciate hearing how you’re doing what you’re doing and why you’re doing it (composition, balance, etc.). A very Merry Christmas to you and yours and may Santa be extra good to Ginger!!!!! Thank you, Vicky!!

  22. Love all of your videos Vicky, but especially the art journal videos! I enjoy the long videos and am sad when they end:) Your creativity and work are wonderful.

  23. Beautiful, Vicky. I love to watch you create your art journal pages. As far as the length of your videos, it doesn’t bother me if they are longer. I’d rather see as much of your creative process as possible. One day I will get over my intimidation and start my own art journal. Thanks for sharing.

  24. I love this page it is really pretty and looks simple, even tough a lot of work went into it! Please keep the art journal videos coming, as many as you can do, they are my favourites. The length never bothers me. I wish you a safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

  25. Another beautiful layout. Love the technique you used for the background. I love making backgrounds for cards with deli paper, they are so much fun. I make a bunch at a time and keep them in my stash for when I need something. As for the length of your videos, I love them, don’t care how long they are, I love seeing how you create every bit of the journal page, so don’t cut anything out. I’ve learned so much from your videos and wouldn’t want to miss a thing. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

  26. Wonderful video as always! I like the length and the details. I can always fast forward if I want to skip ahead. I enjoy seeing all the steps. Thank you for taking the time and sharing your creativity with us.

  27. Your work is so inspiring and your videos are the reason I started an art journal. I would love to see more so I hope you do more art journal page videos this year. Thank you for your inspiration!
