Hi! Today I am back with another art journal layout. It’s the third I have shared this week, if you want to check out the other two click HERE and HERE.
I worked on my custom made 6×6 disc bound journal. I used Distress Mixed Media ( SBC | SSS ) for the page and the cut out elements. For the background I used distress oxide inks and covered it with fall colors. Then I did some clear embossing with the Autumn stencil ( SBC | SSS ). That allowed me to do the emboss resist technique that ended up to this gorgeous background. You can see the whole process in detail in the video tutorial below.
The three pumpkins were a simply sketched and you will see in the video how easy it was. Remember they don’t have to be perfect. I look through my stash for different sized pumpkins and couldn’t find any in those sizes so sketching them was the only way to go. To color my pumpkins I used distress oxide inks as the first layer of color.
I also demonstrate in the video how you can do the shading and the highlighting. And as an extra bonus you can see two different techniques with similar results, but by using different mediums.
So happy with the outcome and I had so much fun creating this page.

You continue to inspire me, you are amazing and I love the technique and the wonderful page you created.. I found your sight back in 2014 , I was in a sad and frustrating time in my life and you opened a new world for me & I hav e never looked back. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and life with so many of us.
Simply gorgeous! Thanks for sharing so many inspirational projects this week.
Looking forward to whatever you have planned next!
This is just stunning Vicky! I am in love with that background and so impressed you hand drew your pumpkins!
Beautiful! You make it look so easy, I wish you were my neighbor so I could learn from you. Thanks Vicky!
Amazing journal page, love your pumpkins. Hope to see more!
You saved the best video for last!!!! I LOVE the techniques you share in this video! And those pumpkins … I think even I could hand draw some and will give it a try!! One question: you used matte medium after using the oxide ink. Can you use the micro glaze (by Ranger) with the oxide inks? I’m just wondering if there’s a “technical” reason why you used the matte medium instead of the glaze. Thank you so much for this video, Vicky. It’s not only inspiring, but I find it encouraging. Happy weekend and thanks too for the many videos this week!!!!
You are amazing. Love your page. Your art journal pages are fantastic.

That Page is super cool. I am inlove with this background. ??And the pumpkins are gorgeous!!
Wow Vicky, this is again an awesome page. The way you made your own pumpkins, great, and I love it that you explain exactly how you made it. Thank you for this weeks stunning pages, all three of them where great!
QUESTION: can I also use Micro Glaze instead of Multi Medium for the pumpkin technique?
You can use Micro Glaze to seal them fo sure but never tried the markers or the crayons on top… so you have to try and find out. Let me know if it works!
Thank you for your answere and I will let you know when I am done. Have a nice weekend.
Your Art journals are fabulous! You are very inspiring!

Another magnificent page, Vicky! I love all the details.
Oh! I am in Art Journal heaven this week Vicky. Thank you so much for
posting 3 in one week, I absolutely love what you did with the background for
the pumpkins, its good to know that I can use micro glaze or matte medium on
the distress oxides.
Again, your pages always inspire me and I love that you share your time
and talents so generously with us!
Thank You!
Beautiful layout. Someday I hope to do something that is as beautiful as what you do. Thanks for sharing this with us.
your oxide pads look so bright and juicy. have you reinked them? mine are just bought but look kind of dry. maybe I shouldn’t buy from the rain forrest giant online place?
ni I haven’t re-inked them. There is a lot of ink in them , just press harder with your blending tool or put pressure in the actual pad for the smooshing technique!
You are so talented, absolutely the greatest! I love your work – so inspiring! Really That background is so beautiful – honestly I want to make something like that so bad. Keep ‘um coming. Thanks Vicky, Denise
Gorgeous!
