Hi! Today I am back with an art journal layout using fun mixed media techniques! I’ve been getting so many requests for new layouts and one of my blog goals this year is to share of of this kind of projects with you. So today I am using a cardmaking stamp set but turned it into a great focal point for my layout! The is the “Let’s stick together” by MFT

How cute is this?! Bright, happy and uplifting ! I always like my layouts to have motivational quotes so I went with this one ” life is like a cactus, thorny but beautiful”.

For the background I used my distress oxide sprays. Super quick and easy way to add some color there and it turned out lovely with a chalky finish. In the video you can see how easy it is to bring the colors to life if you want to … just by using matte medium on top for a completely different look that seals down the color at the same time.

I like to stamp and cut out my images and then stick them on my pages. Then I color everything with my  big brush markers.

There are other ways though to get similar results, like coloring your images with any medium you like and then stick them down. Do whatever makes you happy! Remember there are no rules in art journaling!

Other favorite techniques of mine are adding white splashes and highlights with my gel pen. Love the whimsical look some white lines here and there add to the pages.

Here is a close-up look on the background, where you can see the sprayed color, the stamping, the splashes and even the ghost effect I got from stenciling.

  2. Thanks for sharing how you decide on the colors for your background. That’s helpful to me. Love the brightness of the background — it goes well with the cactus! And such a true quote!!! Just got the tiny text stamp set from Tim Holtz and have in mind to do some art journal pages that are inspired by the sentiments from the set (which I absolutely love). Thanks for the inspiration. Hope you had a good time here in AZ and enjoyed all the beautiful cactus. If you ever have a chance to come in the spring to see them in bloom, I would recommend it!! Thorny and prickly with very delicate gorgeous flowers. Quite something to see. Thank you for the video and for doing an art journal page!
