art journal collage

Hi! Today I am back with an art journal using mixed media techniques. I did a collage of cut out images from the new Forest collection by Stamperia and I combined many other fun techniques such as spraying with oxides and stenciling with paste.

Here are some close up photos on my art journal layout. Check the video above for a step by step tutorial and scroll down for a list of supplies used.

I added texture with embossing paste that takes colors differently than paper, and that helps all the designs to stand out.

Little details like splashes, black sketchy lines or white highlights always make a difference in an art journal project.

Isn’t the quote just awesome for my eagle?!

The idea was to have my eagle flying out of the photo, a “free spirit”! Love using motivational quotes on my art journal and when I browse through the pages I get an optimistic and happy vibe!

Browns and yellows for my backgrounds are a big love of mine, I go back to this color combo again and again as I like that vintage looking style they give. As if I made these pages ages ago …

and here are a few more photos where you can see all the texture of the paste

In the Stamperia Forest paper pad there are many animals, wild and free that you can use as your focal point in many more art journals layouts but that eagle is just stunning!

Cut bits and pieces from the papers and create clusters… just layer them one on top of the other for an interesting look. No need to glue everything down completely flat, let some corners without glue to add dimension and texture.

  1. Wow Vicky – I could watch and listen to your videos all day long.
I love your art journaling. When it comes to journals you are my very favourite creator.

  2. Breathtaking page Vicky! I love the beautiful papers of Stamperia and what you made with it.
Thank you so much for sharing your stunning inspiration, stay safe and have a wonderful week.

  3. That quote is SO great. I love it and it goes so well with the eagle. You are brave to cut the paper! I have the same issue sometimes … I like a paper so much it’s hard to use/cut it up. Since the virus and staying at home, I’m learning to use what I have and be brave … like you!!! This is such a beautiful page. Love the background and the focal point. Seems different from what you usually do and yet it there is so much of you included. Lately I’ve been playing with what I call “art journal/mixed media meets scrapbooking”! My focal points are photos of my ancestors — a project I’ve been wanting to do for a while now. I’m kind of stuck on the page I’m working on and your video came at just the right time. I think I know what direction to go in now!!!! Or at least what to try. Thank you so much. Hope you are well and staying safe. Do you still need special permission to go out? We don’t seem to get any news about how Greece is doing.

  4. I really love this art journal page! Great job and wonderful use of several mediums! TY for sharing your talents with us all. I googled Eagle symbolism and stated “The eagle is the chief over all the winged creatures. Eagle conveys the powers and messages of the spirit. It is man’s connection to the divine because it flies higher than any other bird.”

  5. I’m quoting Marian Hillier who said….. “Wow Vicky – I could watch and listen to your videos all day long.
I love your art journaling. When it comes to journals you are my very favourite creator.”

  6. Fantastic page and amazing creativity! Absolutely love this project, and this has been probably the best background I’ve seen. I enjoyed it very much. Many-many thanks, Vicky!!!

  7. Hi Vicky!!! That is the absolute best page ever! Thanks for sharing it with us! Now I will have to buy many of these products:)

  8. So unique and fantastic!! Love that paper!! I always enjoy watching you work on art journals, you always surprise!!

  9. I love the outdoor papers, your journal pages make me think of our summers in one of our mountain lakes campgrounds. That is the only place I ever saw the Western Tananger birds untit this week, they are spending time at our little 5 acre yard here in the valley in southern Oregon. Like Bullocks Orioles, they love grape jelly to eat If we don’t put it out for them, they drink from our hummingbird feeders! If I can find your email I will send you a photo,

  10. Just found your work 3 days ago and since that moment I’m looking at all your art-journaling. I can only be amazed with every page again. They are all magical to me and I really adore your work. So detailed and gorgeous and all of them done with so much love and precision.

  11. Hi Vicky, Loved that Video. The eagle was gorgeous and I cannot wait to get that paper. Thank you for all your videos.
