Hi! Today I am back with the 5th video for my Christmas art journal series. I will be sharing a new art journal project every Thuesday all the way until Christmas. That’s 8 Christmas themed layouts! I will play with different mixed media techniques, showcase new products and use old ones from my stash too.

close-up photos

Here are some close=up photos on the project that I made for today! It’s 6×6 and you can easily frame it or even make it on a canvas. The design is easily modified to work on a double page in your art journal book too!

I used the Sizzix Christmastime( SBC | SSS ) die set, aren’t they adorable? I love that in the set you get a lampost as well to complete the scene!

For the background I worked with my distress inks and the good old smooching technique.

I also played with my brayer to create the snow texture at the bottom of my page.

For the snowflakes I used Transfer Gel ( SBC | SSS ) and then on top Nuvo – Gilding Flakes in Silver ( SBC | SSS ). That is a fun technique that adds sparkle and dimension.

  1. Only 3 more to go?!!! Uh oh. I think I’m going to go through withdrawal when this series is over! I have enjoyed it so very much; am deeply appreciative of each and every video; and have learned a lot in a short period of time. As a visual learner, it is so helpful to me to watch how something is done. Another fun one today!! I was wondering if you got your deckled trimmer and how you like it. I love the deckled edge look and it’s perfect on this project … and that die set really is adorable. Another great idea by Tim Holtz. I really like the way you did the sky background — especially with the hint of brown — as well as the idea to use gesso for snow. These are now must try techniques!! And those snowflakes are beautiful. As always, thank you, Vicky

  2. Wow week 5 already. I love Tuesdays and seeing what you are going to create. I have been a follower of your postings for a long time and it always amazes me with techniques you keep sharing with us. We are so lucky to have crafters that are willing to share. Thanks Vicky, Looking forward to next Tuesday.

  3. I always enjoy watching you create, but really love the journal pages. I am sad that there are only 3 more weeks in this series. Today’s page is truly magnificent. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us.

  4. Again a stunning page Vicky. I enjoy your art journals so very, very much and I’m so glad you do this series. Thank you so much, stay safe and have a wonderful weekend.

  5. Vicky, after seeing this video, I ordered the die for me and a friend. I love the way you splattered the snow. You used something I haven’t seen. It didn’t look like a brush. Will you please tell me what it is? I didn’t see it in the list of supplies.
    Thanks,
