winter mixed media

Hi! Today I am back with the 6th video for my Christmas art journal series. I will be sharing a new art journal project every Thuesday all the way until Christmas. That’s 8 Christmas themed layouts! I will play with different mixed media techniques, showcase new products and use old ones from my stash too.

close-up photos

Here are some close=up photos on the project that I made for today! It’s 8×8 and you can easily frame it or even make it on a canvas. The design is easily modified to work on a one page in your art journal book too! Or even on a double page, you can have the bird on the branch in one page and a lovely quote on the other.

I wanted to have a soft blue and grey background with silver touches. This way you can have red on top that really pops!

I have tree red cutouts, the bird, the ornament and the berries creating a visual triangle that is really pleasing to the eye.

The quote is a combination of die cut letters and a chip quote with a phrase in red that really compliments the whole design.

You can ad as much dimension as you like if you are not working inside a book, so I did add foam squares on the bird and the ornament.

The frame is made by sticking down snow flakes, a really fun product that really took this project into the next level!

  1. I run out of words to describe your work…….but I will try……..fabulous, amazing, superb, gorgeous, exquisite! ALL of your pages fall into these categories. Thank you, once again for the video. I LOVE to watch you create!

  2. I am so happy its Tuesday again.
Looking forward to your video and this one is so beautiful.
What a beautiful project. I would love to have this hanging in my home!!
Thanks for the inspiration. See you next Tuesday.

  3. I look forward to these Tues journal videos. It’s still quite warm in Calif, but your videos put me in the holiday spirit.

  4. When I began the journey into paper crafting I considered myself “color challenged”. I just couldn’t understand the use of color on a project and it caused great frustration in me. Then I found your videos and I began to understand that I was trying to use too many colors on one project. That made a HUGE difference and now my friends look at me funny when I say I have been “color challenged” because they enjoy my use of color (and I experience a whole lot less frustration!!!). Thank you, Vicky!!! Today I learned through your video that it’s ok not to be literal about my color choices (like using silver on the branch). Wow. I love your background and can’t wait to try Iced Spruce and Speckled Egg together … beautiful. And I just love the touches of brown too. It really makes a difference. This is a beautiful project and I love your idea of creating something that can be displayed temporarily and then put into a journal. What a brilliant idea!!! Thanks for another wonderful video!

  5. Again a awesome page Vicky. I love the snow border you created.
Thank you so much for this great video tutorial and inspiration.
Stay safe and have a wonderful weekend.
