hot foiling with dies

Happy new year and welcome back! Today I am answering one of the most asked questions when it comes to foiling! Hot foiling with regular dies, does it work?

Check out the video below or at my  YouTube channel

hot foil with dies  – card close up

To demonstrate the hot foiling with regular dies technique I used dies from the Large Die of the Month by Spellbinders( SPL ) , as well as from another company so you can see it works with any dies. The results are elegant, delicate lines from the die and the results are great for backgrounds as well as for focal images. Since I did end up with successful paper pieces I did put together a card.

  1. Happy New Year, Vicky!! I hope you had an enjoyable holiday season. I haven’t gotten into foiling, but I really like this card as well as your idea to do short videos answering questions and going back to basics. I sometimes talk with a craft friend about how I have gotten into over complicating (and thinking) card making/crafting. Reminders of going back to basics and keeping things simple might be helpful in my journey back. Thank you for the video!

  2. Hi, Vicky – Happy New Year! I love the cards you made. I don’t have a foiling machine, but I got a Platinum VI so that I have a manual die cut machine (I think I will like that as well as the Gemini Jr that I got first) and I think the Glimmer is much more widely available than the “Foilpress” that goes w/ the Gemini Jr. We’ll see. I might end up with all four items eventually. I continue to watch videos about foiling in the hope that one day I will be able to do cards using foil. They’re lovely, in general – yours are no exception: gorgeous!
Thanks for sharing and for the video!

  3. Happy New Year to you Vicky! Wow, I had no idea you could use your regular dies in the Glimmer. Darn, I wish I wouldn’t have sold mine! I may have to buy another one now!! Beautiful card as always!

  4. Happy New Year Vicky. I hope you had a wonderful time relaxing with your family over Christmas. I absolutely love this beautiful card that you have created with dies today. I have the Altenew die and I’m just waiting for my Spellbinders kits to arrive and I can have a try at creating something similar inspired by your creation. Always love your videos. Thank you ❤️

  5. Happy New Year Vicky.
What a beautiful card, great to see that regular dies also can be used by hot foiling. I don’t have a foiling machine and not intend to buy one but I can appreciate a beautiful card made with it.
Thank you so much for sharing, stay safe and have a wonderful day.

  6. Hi Vicky, Happy New Year. I was given a glimmer foiling machine, so I really appreciate the videos you have been posting on foiling. They have been very helpful and so informative! Thank you!

  7. Thanks for the helpful video. Foiling with dies is a great way to stretch our dies. I will definitely be giving this idea a try.

  8. Vicky, you are just wonderful. thank you so much for sharing this technique. I need to play with my sandwich to see if this will work for me too – this will help us to use what we have without having to buy all new hotfoil plates. Thank you so much. XxX

  9. Since I was recently given a glitter foiling machine, the tutorials you have been uploading on how to use it have been quite helpful. They have been of great assistance and provided a wealth of information. Thank you!
