Do you have to fight with the “art journal sticky pages” problem?!

I get so many comments and emails about this issue that I decided to do some research on a few products and let you know the results.

art journal sticky pages

I truly believe that sticky pages have to do with the climate you live in as well as the products you use. I do not get sticky art journal pages because of the way I store my art journals and maybe because of the quality of the products I use. But there are a few mediums that I use that do get sticky from time to time. Such as glossy accents, embossing paste/modeling paste, crackle paint etc.

  1. Thank you very much for this helpful video, Vicky! I don’t create art journal pages yet, but some of my cards (with glossy accents and enamel accents dimensional glaze) stick together when I store them. Now I know, how to prevent it 🙂

  2. Hey Vicky! I love a repeek into your pages!:D
the microglaze by Tim/Ranger is the same recipe as the Judikins-

I personally have not used Mod Podge for years now since doing swaps and several times everything in the package sticking together because some people used it, I have always used a matte medium myself as well. I love the tip, I will have to try it with the pearl products as I find no matter how long you leave them to dry they still stick! Thanks for the tip!

  3. Thanks for the helpful information. I live in a dry climate, but in summer months we use a swamp cooler which puts moisture in the house.

  4. Vicky, thank you so much for all the information! I was wondering if you ever used the Faber -Castell Glaze and if that would work in the same way.
Love all your video’s. Thank you for all the effort you put into them.

  5. Thank you Vicky. I agree that climate has some impact. I live in a place where it’s very humid in the summer months, but it’s still only spring here so I wouldn’t have thought it is what’s causing my pages to stick. As I’m fairly new to Art Journalling I have used supplies I have in stock (where possible), and so I have been using a product called Master Brush Strokes which is a impasto gel medium by Helmar. It is quite thick so I’m using it more sparingly now. It does seem to have more of a gloss finish so I think that is my problem. Do we cover pages in gel medium to protect them after creation? I wonder if it essential to cover them? I will definitely be investing in some of the wax product you used in the video. It seems to resolve the issue brilliantly. Thank you for going to the effort to help others.

  6. Very informative and helpful. I do have some Distress Glaze, but haven’t had the chance to use it yet. Never thought of them helping with the sticky page problem, which I have run into with my art journal. Thanks for sharing this info with us.

  7. I wasn’t aware of those products so thanks for researching and sharing them. I’ve had the sticky page problem too. I use Liquitex mediums to collage and to add a finish to my pages. The glossy finish really sticks those pages together. I use a piece of beeswax to give my pages a good rub all over once they are completely dry. Then I buff it with a cloth. A piece of beeswax or even paraffin or candle wax will work. This is a tip I learned from YouTuber Comfortable Shoes. I can’t recall her name.

  8. Such GREAT info today, Vicky! I have not been so happy with my first pages just because of this sticky problem. I am going to order one wax and one glaze, because that may solve my problem. You always have such useful info for us…thanks so much!

  9. Vickie – thank you for this video. You are so good to share things like this with us. Love what you do!

  10. Dear Vicky thank you for your great tutorial! You are right that stickiness has also to do with the climate, there is a lot of humidity where I live and some of my art journal pages stick together, especially where I’ve used modelling paste. Up to know I use dry baby wipes between the pages to protect them (as I have plenty of them!) but of course this is a temporary solution. I’m thinking of buying some glaze know as I also need to seal images that are watercolored with watercolor pens. But I have a question for you. I have a watercolored image that I need to glue on my page and then add shadows to it with F-C big brush pens. I can’t do this with gel medium as it ruins the watercoloring, but I suppose that I can’t use wax and glaze too as I will ruin the pens. Is this right? How can I add the shadows? I have thought of making the shadows before gluing the image, but is there another solution? Thank you for all! <3 <3 <3

  11. Thank you so much for this post. I learn so much from you & am inspired to experiment & try new things.

  12. PS I live in Florida where it is very humid & rains a lot. :), so this post was very timely.
    Thanks again.

  13. Thank you very much for this Vicky, I have recently started my first art journal – getting loads of inspiration from you. However, I too have been finding that the pages stick and so far I have only done around five of them. So now I will go over each of the pages with the cold wax. Brilliant idea.

The idea I did have before I saw this video was to put inside the pages a wax sheet. Really a similar idea.

Thank you for all you do sharing all your wonderful talent 🙂
