Hi! Do you have any background stamps and you can’t think what to do with them?! Today I am sharing 5 ways to use background stamps with fun techniques. For all my examples I used the Pretty Peonies Background stamp from the latest release by SimonSaysStamp.
I link to everything I used at the end of this post as well as share an exclusive 10% coupon code for shopping at Arteza.com.

1. stamp and color
For coloring my card I used the Arteza Real Brush Pens ( ARTZ | SSS ). Loved how easy it is to blend them on watercolor paper and how vibrant the colors look when you don’t add water. This card design works with any background stamp, just use your favorite medium to color and go for it. It’s a little time consuming and maybe hard to the eyes coloring all those details but take your time. It’s fun and relaxing and everyone says it’s therapeutic!
2. gold heat embossing
Another way to use a background stamp is to emboss it with gold or silver embossing powder. Usually background stamp designs are quite intricate and they will end up looking like lace! Perfect for anniversary or wedding cards. Simple elegance!
3. pop up a part of the stamp
For this card design I stamped the image with a pale ink color to create by card background. I then stamped it one more time with black ink so that I could color and cut out only a flower. This way you create a focal point that you can pop on your card that matches your background! The flower is again dolored with my Arteza real brush pens, but this time I used water and that’s how I achieved a solfer look!
4. emboss resist
You can never go wrong with emboss resist! Stamp with Versamark and emboss with white and they use your favorite color combo on inks to do some blending! One of my favorite techniques of all times… never get bored of it and it always turns out gorgeous!
5. alcohol lift ink
Finally for the last technique for today I grabbed my alcohol inks. I created a simple background on yupo just by mixing a few colors and then stamped with alcohol lift ink.

Oh, Vicki, your cards are sensational! Thank you so much for putting this video together for us. I’ve saved it into my library and will refer to it again and again for inspiration. Additionally, I think I’d like to give the Arteza Real Brush pens a try. Your heat-embossed water colored backgrounds were gorgeous!
All of your cards are gorgeous Vicky. From the vibrant orange and yellow through the embossing and alcohol card, they are all simply amazing!
stunning projects!
The stamp is beautiful and these cards are all kinds of amazing! What a great idea to use a background stamp in so many different ways.
Oh wow these are so beautiful!! I love the gold embossing technique the most 🙂
I’ve been using the Arteza watercolor markers for just over a year. I like the brush tip and the color selection (I have the 24 color set), but I find success is best achievd with higher-priced watercolor paper. Other watercolors seem more forgiving, easier to blend, glaze layers, and control, even on cheaper paper.
Amazing what you can do with one stamp! Awesome cards you made Vicky and I can’t say which one I love most, love them all.
Thank you so much for showing and inspire us. Have a great weekend.
These are fun and beautiful designs. Can’t wait to try them out for myself!
Always love your creations. These cards are beautiful! The techniques shared are great.
What great ideas and all 5 are gorgeous!! As usual you have blown me away with inspiration 🙂
Beautiful cards! After watching your tutorial, I need to get some background stamps. I love the versatility with the different techniques and mediums. Thanks for sharing these great ideas!
These cards are fabulous. Such a beautiful stamp and wonderful techniques. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Amazing cards! Thank you for taking your time and showing that you can create such diversity even if you don’t have a lot of materials. As for the cards I loved the first one the most and would love to make something like it, possibly with black background.. think it would work? 🙂
