wax pencils and gamsol

Hi! Hope you are all healthy and safe. Today I am back with a card while using my Arteza colored pencils. I am gonna have some fun coloring and blending with wax pencils and gamsol. Arteza colored pencils are a dream to work with and you can see them in action in the video below where I do a review and put them into use.

Arteza colored pencils

I have the 72 set and I wish I grabbed the 120. They are wax based pencils and each pencil is labeled with the name and number of the color as well as the lightfastness.

Check the little plus signs on each pencil for the lightfastness.

blending

They are really easy to blend and I demonstrate 3 different ways to work with them in the video.

  1. using a soft application
  2. pressing too hard to oversaturate
  3. blending with gamsol

Here are some basic things you need to keep in mind about these pencils, and I discuss all of these points in detail through out the video.

pros

  • wax based
  • artist grade
  • acid free
  • high pigmented
  • smooth application and superb blending
  • lightfast (fade resistant)
  • break resistant leads (YES PLEASE!)
  • they come in a tin with trays nicely organized
  • great price

cons

I am not a pencil artist or an expert in that field but for crafters/cardmakers they are perfect and the only disadvantage I could find is the round barrels… they are gonna roll around your surface as you work.

The stamp set I used is the Fabulous Florets Stamp Set( ALTN | SSS | SBC ).  To add some subtle interest on the background I used the Dotted Swirls Debossing Cover Die( ALTN | SSS | SBC ).

For the sentiment I combined the ancy Hello Die( ALTN | SSS | SBC ) with a stamped sentiment from the YOU GOT THIS ( SSS ) stamp set.

  1. Thank you for this review. I’ve tried coloring with several different mediums and realize that pencils are my thing!! LOVE coloring with them. What caught my attention about these is your comment about the tip not breaking off. The tips on the wax pencils I have break frequently — especially when sharpening them. Either I go for a sharp point (and frequently the tip breaks) or save the pencil and not get a sharp point. A couple pencils are small but I’ve rarely used them … just had to keep sharpening them because the point broke off. Frustrating. Is there a pencil sharpener that you would recommend? Or is this the nature of the pencil? How do the Artez’s stand up to sharpening? Belated Happy Easter blessings and thank you again for the review + discount code.

  2. Forgot to say: thank you for the link to Dyan’s daily post (from your previous posting). I checked it out and am hooked on watching her every morning. She makes me laugh out loud!!! And I’ve learned some things from her, which I’m giving a try to see if they fit for me. So appreciative of the many crafters who are posting extra videos. So helpful and motivating to me. Look forward to Tim Holtz’s Saturday videos to remind me of the basics of using Distress products too. Thank you, Vicky.

  3. What a great technique! I have to give the gamsol a try. I’ve had a bottle for over a year now and never think to use it. Your flowers turned out so lovely! As is your card. Wish I could buy this set of pencils, but I already have a 72 ct. Prismacolor wax pencils and just cannot afford a luxury right now. But I appreciated your review of them. They sound awesome and the discount + sale is a great buy!

  4. Beautiful card. Your flowers are beautiful. Thank you for the great tips on colouring with pencils. Be healthy and be safe.
